Pre-Start Conductor's Notes

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well and have had a lovely Summer - with the start of this academic year well under way, it feels like an age since we've had that summer sun!

Lots to cover in these Conductor's Notes, so please do give them a good read.

Thank you!

Firstly, a huge thank you for last term! It was a brilliant concert, and everyone sang so well. I received a great amount of extremely positive feedback, especially from 'off-the-street' audience members who just happened to be passing by before the concert and decided to stay and listen. The quality of the sound of the choir was excellent, and it was a pleasure to conduct you all. A special congratulations to all of our soloists, and of course to our fabulous accompanist James. Well done everyone!

Open Workshop

Secondly, looking forward to our Open Workshop on Saturday 24th September, we have a good number signed up, but still have space for some more, so if you have any friends interested in it bring them along. The sign up is still available HERE and the poster is below so you can share it with friends and family.

A reminder of the theme and music: "and breathe... A choral workshop aimed to improve breath control, vocal stamina, and vocal projection, especially in recovery from Covid-19.

Harris – Holy is the true light

Victoria – O quam gloriosum

Rachmaninov – Bogoroditsye Dyevo

Bruckner – Christus factus est"

Please aim to arrive for 13:45, as we'll be handing out music before the workshop starts at 14:00.

Autumn Term '22

It's really exciting that we're only a few weeks away from starting our rehearsals for the Autumn Term.

Below is all the information you'll need for the concert, including rehearsal dates, times & locations, repertoire, and any other little bits. Of course, if there are any problems do email us. Wendy D will be emailing this all round too, but I hope this covers everything.

The key info is the first rehearsal is Tuesday 4th October in Holy Rood Church OX1 4LD, and the concert is on Saturday 10th December in St Margaret's Church OX2 6RX.

Marked up scores will be available to view on Conductor's Notes before the start of term.

We'll be using '100 Carols for Choirs' for some of the pieces this term. If you own your own copy and will be using it, could you please let Judy (librarian) know: judegram@hotmail.co.uk

'22/'23 Season

Just a brief overview of what to look forward to for the rest of this season.

Spring '23: "In the Mood" - a jazzy way to bring in the Spring, featuring music from the collection of songs 'In the Mood' - also lovingly called 'The Pink Book'.

Summer '23: "To be sung on the water" - a selection of music inspired by the beauty and tranquility of water, its importance to life, but also its power and destructive nature.

I really look forward to seeing you all on either the 24th September for our Open Workshop, or on the 4th October for our first rehearsal.

- Ben
